HALLOWEEN CREDIT CRUNCH TIP #6 - FOOD AND DRINK

Icypunch

Today's free tip is recipes for ALCOHOLIC Halloween punches.

These look great at any Halloween party but remember, if there are kids at the party too, that they punch bowl is well out of reach of the children.

QUICK & EASY STOMACH CHURNING BLOOD RED PUNCH

  • 1x 750 ml bottle Premium Vodka or White Rum
  • 2x 2 litre bottles of clear Lime/Lemonade
  • Red food colouring
  • Marshmallows

Chill the Vodka (in the freezer) and lemonade (in the fridge) for at least 24 hours. Just before the party combine "spirits" and the lemonade in a large punch bowl.

Add red food colouring to make it blood red.

Then place the marshmallows on top of the mixture to create a gooey, stomach churning blood red punch.

FREE HALLOWEEN CREDIT CRUNCH TIP #5 - DECORATIONS

Admittedly I have yet to try this one out but I am sure it will work a treat.

To make floating ghosts you need

* Large Helium Balloon
* Some lightweight white fabric like voile or even large white bin bags will also do the trick
* Small glow sticks
* String
* Black card & glue

Very simple, tie the glow stick to the helium balloon and place the fabric over it.  If using white bin bags, you will have to cut open the bin bag first and then maybe tie it around the balloon so it doesn't slip off.

Then with the black card, cut out some ghoulish eye and mouth shapes and stick to the fabric.

The floating ghosts will float around the room, especially if there is a fan to create a breeze and will have a spooky eerie glow from the glow sticks.

HALLOWEEN FREE CREDIT CRUNCH TIPS #4 - COSTUMES

Fake_blood

Here are some recipes for you to make realistic-looking fake blood. Real blood is reddish brown so you may need to alter the amounts of ingredients for the desired affect. Keep in mind, fake blood is messy and some of these recipes may leave stains -- so use with caution.

It is recommended to apply Vaseline to skin before applying to reduce staining on the skin.   Also, make sure that clothes and furniture that you do not want to be ruined are kept well away from the fake blood.

Chocolate Fake Blood

1/2 c. Warm Water

tbsp Corn Syrup

tbsp Cocoa powder

1 tsp Red Food Colouring

Blend the water and cocoa together and then add the rest of the ingredients. Leave to stand for a while. Skim any bubbles off the top.

You may wish to add a few drops of food colouring to adjust the colour.

Foolproof Fake Blood

Clear Corn Syrup

Red Food Colouring

Milk (Optional)

Pour it into a bowl and mix in some red food colouring (and blue food colouring also if you want to adjust the colour)

Adding a small amount of milk will make the blood appear darker and thicker.

Realistic Recipe

2/3 c. Corn Syrup

1/3 c. Warm Water

tbsp Corn Starch

4 tsp Red food colouring

tbsp Cocoa powder

2 drops of green or yellow food colouring

Mix the corn starch with the water in a large mixing bowl and then stir in the corn syrup. Add the food colouring drop by drop until you get the dark reddish brown colour of blood!

Credit Crunching Coffee Blood

Plain Flour
Water
Red food Colouring
1 tsp Coffee

The quantity of ingredients aren't important, it just depends on how much you want.

Boil the water then sieve in the flour, making sure you get ALL of the lumps out and you have a thick paste.

Add the red food colouring.

Dissolve the teaspoon of coffee granules into a small amount of hot water.  The water must be HOT otherwise the coffee will not dissolve.

Add the coffee to the paste and the colour will change for a bright ghastly red to a reddish brown.

HALLOWEEN CREDIT CRUNCH FREE TIP #3 - FOOD

Melonbrain

Today's free Halloween themed tip is this fantastic looking Melon Brain.

Its so simple - it's a no brainer (groan!)

Simply take a whole watermelon.

Peel off the outer green skin back to the white flesh (you may want to take a slice out of one side, so it sits easier on a plate)

With a knife, score deep grooves into the flesh until the red of the watermelon shows through.

You have just created a great Halloween themed food decoration suitable for both kids and adult parties.

HALLOWEEN CREDIT CRUNCH TIP #1 - DECORATIONS

(download)
These little faces, made from dried apples, can look really nasty and sinister -- the perfect thing to decorate a Halloween party. Tuck them in among the food at your Halloween Buffet.

Once dried, they last and last for years.

apples
whole cloves
a few grains of rice
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons salt

Instructions:

Peel a large apple and coat with mixture of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of salt to prevent browning. With a potato peeler or small knife carve out eye sockets, a nose, mouth and ears. Don't worry about carving small details as they will be lost when the apple dries. Go for the big features and nature will take care of the rest.

Use whole cloves for eyes and raw rice grains for teeth (the faces also come out looking great without these extra props, just carve and let dry if you want to keep it simple). The photo below right shows the freshly carved apples used to make the apple heads in the photo above.

Sit apples on a wire rack in a warm, dry place for about 2 weeks. You can speed the drying process a little by drying in an oven set at the lowest temperature. However, the process will still take several days.

Pumpkin Cake Recipe for Halloween

PUMPKIN CAKE FOR HALLOWEEN
(This is rather like a carrot cake)

CAKE INGREDIENTS

300 gm Self Raising Flour
300 gm light muscovado sugar
3 teaspoons mixed spice
2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
175 gm sultanas
half teaspoon salt
4 eggs
200 gm butter
zest and juice of one orange
500 gm grated flesh of pumpkin or butternut squash

METHOD

Preheat oven to 180 degrees for fan ovens; Gas Mark 4 or 160 degrees for ordinary ovens

Prepare a 20cm x 30cm cake tin OR 2 x 8 inch sandwich tins by greasing and lining with greaseproof paper

Place dry ingredients (flour, sugar, spice, bicarbonate, sultanas and salt) in a mixing bowl.

Melt the butter, beat the eggs and then beat the eggs into the butter

Stir orange zest and one tablespoon of orange juice into the butter and egg mixture

Add pumpkin flesh to dry ingredients

Stir butter mixture into dry ingredients

Pour batter into tin(s)

Bake for APPROXIMATELY 30 minutes
****** Pumpkins can vary in water content which can affect the cooking time. So keep an eye on your cake towards the end of the cooking time and adjust timing as necessary. Test for readiness. If the cake is ready, a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake will come out clean.

When ready leave the cake in the tin for 5 minutes to cool slightly then turn out onto a wire tray. Skewer all over and drizzle with the rest of the orange juice (from the 2 oranges) while still warm. Leave cake to cool.

FROSTING

200 gm soft cheese
85 gm softened butter
100 gm sifted icing sugar
zest of one orange
1 tablespoon orange juice

Beat all ingredients together and leave in the fridge

LEAVE CAKE TO COOL COMPLETELY BEFORE APPLYING ICING

Give the frosting a quick beat before icing the cake

Now apply your edible cake topper according to the instructions. Don't forget to look at the video to see just how easily they are applied!

Your cake can be kept in the fridge for about three days

Grease and line a 30cm x 20 cm tin
